Peter doesn’t want Jesus washing his feet.
Actually, he says it will never happen.
But Jesus responds, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
At this point, Jesus is talking about more than dirty feet.
Peter needs something only Jesus can give him.
And so do we.
We all need Jesus to make us clean.
We can try harder.
Do better.
Become more religious.
Go to church.
Serve.
Give.
But none of those things can wash away our sin.
Only Jesus can do that.
And less than twenty-four hours after Jesus got down on His knees with a towel, He would get up on a cross.
There, He would pay for our sin and make forgiveness possible.
You don’t clean yourself up and then come to Jesus.
You come to Jesus because you need Him to make you clean.

Today’s Question: Am I trusting Jesus to make me clean, or am I still trying to clean myself up?
Today’s Challenge: Stop trying to impress Jesus today. Confess what needs confessing and thank Him for the forgiveness He made possible at the cross.
Today’s Prayer: “Jesus, I can’t make myself clean. Thank You for doing for me what I could never do for myself. Help me trust completely in what You did on the cross.”
