Most of us don't like feeling helpless.
When something is wrong, we want to fix it. When something breaks, we want to repair it. When we make a mistake, we want to make up for it.
But our sin problem is different.
Paul says we were powerless.
We couldn't fix it. We couldn't overcome it. We couldn't behave our way out of it. No amount of church attendance, generosity, good behavior, or trying harder could change our standing with God.
And that's when Jesus came.
Not when we had cleaned ourselves up. Not when we had made some spiritual progress. Not when we finally started getting things right.
When we were still powerless, Christ died for us.
That's the Gospel.
Jesus didn't come because we had finally done enough for Him.
Jesus came because we could never do enough without Him.
The Gospel begins when we stop pretending we can rescue ourselves.

Today's Question:
Where am I still trying to prove to God, or myself, that I can fix what's wrong with me?
Today's Challenge:
When you catch yourself trying to earn God's approval today, stop and remind yourself: “I couldn't save myself. Jesus came for me when I was powerless.”
Today's Prayer:
“Jesus, thank You for coming for me when I couldn't rescue myself. Help me stop trusting in what I can do and rest completely in what You have done.”
